URGENT UPDATE: Canadian Jewish Support for “Breaking the Silence”

It has come to the attention of the Jewish Defence League that the New Israel Fund of Canada has involvement with the NGO “Breaking the Silence.”

This NGO is under investigation by the Government of Israel for charges of gathering IDF Classified Information.  The President of the New Israel Fund in Canada is Joan Garson.   Please review the following information:

Hi friends,
I received this from the New Israel Fund. I’m in the middle of reading the book, Our Harsh Logic. It’s a difficult read, as all the names are excised, so it’s just an anonymous soldier saying “We did this” for a page to 5 pages, over and over for 400 pages. Even so, it’s an extremely important document of the Israeli army’s activities from the inside, and particularly the references to soldiers harassing and arresting civilians, then seeing it reported in the newspaper as “4 terrorists apprehended” and “weapons found,” etc – I would highly recommend it – I got my copy from the Winnipeg Public Library, hopefully it’s similarly available in Toronto. And I’d think a talk with one of its (authors? organizers?) would be very interesting.
Note: the event is in someone’s home, but it is a public event. I checked with Atarah.

Subject: Breaking the Silence in Toronto

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re all well.

I’m writing to you about an event happening in Toronto on Monday, October 14 that I felt you should know about.

Dana Golan from Breaking the Silence (Shovrim Shtikah) will be in Toronto to speak about BTS’s new book, Our Harsh Logic.
While this is not an NIFC event, I think it would be a great opportunity to discuss the sensitive issues at hand and to hear from this transformative activist and educator. Here are the details:
When: Monday, October 14, at 7:30PM
Where: The home of Joan Garson and David Baskin,

If you need more information about the event, please contact Isaac Kates Rose at isaackatesrose@…

All the best,

Atarah

About BTS and the book:

Breaking the Silence is an organization of veteran combatants who have served in the Israeli military since the start of the Second Intifada and have taken it upon themselves to expose the Israeli public to the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories. They endeavor to stimulate public debate about the price paid for a reality in which young soldiers face a civilian population on a daily basis, and are engaged in the control of that population’s everyday life.

Israeli soldiers, the young men and women in the army, know the truth of the occupation better than anyone-they are the people who carry it out. Now, in a monumental book of  collective testimony, OUR HARSH LOGIC: Israeli Soldiers’ Testimonies from the Occupied Territories, 2000-2010 the soldiers speak out and demand to be heard.  The soldiers in OUR HARSH LOGIC have gone on the record with their personal experiences to break what they call a conspiracy of silence across Israeli society and to fulfill a moral obligation. Speaking with undeniable authority, they have made a supremely significant contribution to one of the world’s most vexed and intractable conflicts.

On Tuesday  March 22nd, 2016 7:30 PM, there will be a panel discussion with Joan Garson from the New Israel Fund (a group that provides funding to many anti Israel BDS groups);  Karen Mock from J Space (another group that states. “we oppose Israel’s Jewish settlements”) and  an official from CIJA.

It is important for our community to demand that CIJA not provide any
standing to groups that promote anti Israel groups such as the NGO
“Breaking The Silence”

JDL calls on the Government of Canada to enforce the law, as BDS charity plans “sticky note” campaign

To the attention of the Honourable Minister For Public Safety, Ralph Goodale:

It has come to the attention of the Jewish Defence League of Canada that an Ottawa based organization with charitable donation status, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, is asking Canadians to damage sales of Israeli products that are sold in Canada.

This BDS group has stated: ” CJPME’s campaign invites Canadians from across the country to sign up for a packet of free ‘Boycott Israel’ sticky notes. CJPME invites Canadians to go to local stores and post these on Israeli merchandise, thus warning potential buyers against buying products from Israel.”

The Jewish Defence League of Canada is calling on your office to advise the RCMP to enforce the law. Conspiring with other groups and persons to willfully damage business  premises and impeding people from carrying on normal business — together with the new form of antisemitism — must be stopped.

The Jewish Defence League will also be advising the Canada Revenue Agency of the above.

We hope that your office will see fit to take necessary action to correct this situation.

Thank You,

Meir Weinstein

‘Fans of Anti-Israeli Terrorism Clash with Jewish Students at York University’ (VIDEO)

Our friend Blogwrath attended the JDL’s protest at York last week.

He has an in-depth report at this website, including analysis and background of some of the key anti-Israel event organizers.

Here’s an excerpt:

Despite the opposing voices of anti-Semites, modern Jewish kapos and well-meaning but misguided people, the protest materialized.

A few JDL-Canada members and supporters made their point at the entrance of YU near the end of the park. Others managed to go inside and witness the rally at the food court. It was protected by plenty of campus police that closed the entrances and virtually isolated the fast food joints in the area (that’s fine, the York University students are against capitalist profits anyway).

When the Jews lost patience and raised their voices, the security (uniformed and plainclothes) did their best to keep them silent. (…)

Jews have donated countless millions of dollars with the hope that they support a high institution of learning. The reality is that they have financed a hostile anti-Canadian place which more and more resembles Saudi Arabia. After the protest, CIJA, the organization that claims to represent all Jews in Canada, stated that the anti-Israeli activities in Canadian universities are “marginal”.

If you consider marginal the event you just read about, supported by all major YU student organizations and strongly tolerated by the administration, you should consult your psychiatrist as soon as possible.

Isn’t is time to stop and ask: is this the kind of university anyone in his right mind would support?

Open Letter to the President of York University

Attention President M. Shoukri,

I am very concerned about your recent statement regarding the antisemitic mural at York University.  You have not given any indication that action will be taken to remove the mural. Jewish students have been very vocal that they do not feel safe on campus and the mural is a call for violence.

Please do the right thing and remove the mural.

On January 28, you called for a  “Presidents Advisory Committee on Inclusion”  to be established.  I am very concerned about the composition of such a committee, because in 2009, there was an anti-racism task force created  at York University to deal with similar issues on campus.   And some of the members on that task force were involved in fostering antisemitism on campus.  I sent you a letter back then with details about that task force.   On one such occasion, Jewish students had to be barricaded in a room until police arrived.

According to the “Students United Against Racism” web site, one of the Task Force Members listed was  Ali Mallah and this is how they described him:

“Ali Mallah has served on the Board of Directors of the Urban Alliance on Race Relations for two terms. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Centre for Social Justice (including having served one term as Treasurer). Ali has represented the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Canadian Peace Alliance at International Conferences in the USA, UK and Egypt. He is currently the Ontario Vice-President of the Canadian Arab Federation.”

According to this short bio, Ali Mallah “represented the Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Canadian Peace Alliance at International Conferences in…Egypt.” The conference in Egypt was sponsored by the Muslim Brotherhood Organization and reported Antiwar group backs working with Mideast radicals in the Ottawa Citizen May 9 2007:

“Ali Mallah, who represented the Canadian Arab Federation, the Canadian Union of Public Employees and two antiwar groups, said Canadian delegates “made a very important contribution” in Cairo.”

Also, in 2015, a Federal Court judge ruled that the Canadian Arab Federation could reasonably be seen as supporting banned terrorist groups that are antisemitic.

I would like to meet with you to discuss these issues with you.

Thank you,

Meir Weinstein, National Director
Jewish Defence League of Canada

Join the JDL campaign against York University

e432986c-4546-42dc-a3c1-af1713099f5fTwo weeks ago JDL confronted calls for the murder of Jews at the University of Toronto:

Every campus in Canada has anti Israel student groups that spread fear and support for terror groups, such as Hamas.  Just last week, the University of Toronto hosted an event that openly supported the current violence against Jews in Israel.

And to the credit of the JDL, the event was stopped.

York University has a collaboration agreement with Al Quds University which glorifies terrorists that murder Jews in Israel. The Jewish Defence League will start a campaign against York University.

fed69c19-bbeb-4bc5-ad84-53bc089fda2cJoin the JDL campaign to have York University cut its ties with Al Quds University.

York University has allowed calls to murder Jews. There is a large mural displayed in the main Student Building at York University that calls for violence.

There is an active group on campus called the “Students Against Israeli Apartheid” that fully supports “the popular resistance” which according to Arab leaders in Israel means the “knife intifada” — in plain terms; stabbing Jews; driving vehicles into Jews; shooting Jews.

According to the Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, between September 13, 2015 – January 2, 2016, 27 Israelis have been killed and 279 wounded — 25 of them seriously.

This new wave of Palestinian terrorism included 100 stabbings, 37 shootings and 22 car rammings in addition to firing rockets (from Gaza), detonating explosive charges,
and many hundreds incidents of stone throwing and firebombings.  Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, “the current wave of terrorist attacks is part of the PA’s strategy of “popular resistance” (i.e., popular terrorism) adopted by the PA and Fatah at the Sixth Fatah conference in August 2009.”

On February the 4th, Students Against Israeli Apartheid will have another anti Israel event — and this time it will be confronted by JDL.

JDL will hold a protest at York University that same day, February 4, to start our campaign to stop incitement to murder Jews:

‘JDL Protesters Disrupt U of T Palestinian Resistance Event’

CJNews.com reports:

Roughly a dozen protesters associated with the Jewish Defence League of Canada loudly disrupted – and temporarily halted – a panel discussion Jan. 12 at the University of Toronto titled “Palestinian Popular Resistance: Building the Student Movement.”

The protesters, a few of them wearing clothing marked with the JDL logo, sat scattered throughout the audience in the auditorium in U of T’s George Ignatieff Theatre building and, part way through the first speaker’s talk, several of them, including JDL Canada director Meir Weinstein, began shouting things like, “How many Jews do you want to kill?” “Terrorism” and “Anti-Semitism.”

The event moderator said she would apply a “three strike” system – meaning that after three outbursts, anyone interrupting the talk would be asked to leave – but none of the protesters complied with numerous requests to vacate the room, and the organizers eventually called a recess and cleared out the auditorium.

“What I heard tonight was a total justification for murdering Jews,” Weinstein told The CJN after the lecture had moved locations. “It’s unfortunate that this is happening on a university campus. Students are being indoctrinated to hate Israel and Jews, and [these groups] are giving full justification for what’s been called the ‘knife intifadah.’”

Why JDL Canada supports Im Tirtzu (VIDEO)

Right-wing NGO Im Tirtzu has been embroiled in controversy recently after launching a campaign that exposed 20 Israeli NGOs that it alleges are involved in anti-Israel activity and receive funding from European governments, including Breaking the Silence, New Israel Fund (NIF), Rabbis for Human Rights, +972 Mag, and several others.

A video (see below) released by Im Tirtzu last week called The Foreign Agents – Revealed! depicts a Palestinian terrorist stabbing the viewer, claiming that Israeli leaders of human rights organizations are “moles” that work with foreign countries against Israel’s counter-terrorism agenda. The video accuses the Israeli activists, saying they “fight us while we fight terror,” and calls on viewers to sign a petition to outlaw the 20 organizations.

The JDL supports Im Tirtzu and calls on all our supporters to also support Im Tirtzu.

The issue is very clear. There exists today traitors that seek to defame the one little tiny successful Jewish State and at the same time, give a pass to radical Islam.

The Jewish Defence League also calls on the Canadian Jewish News to stop giving space to traitors. The NGOs that are referred to in the article label the IDF as war criminals and promote a boycott of Israel.

They also call Israel an Apartheid State. It is these NGOs that practice incitement against Israel. ARZA Canada should be ashamed of supporting such anti Israel NGO’S.

The Jewish Defence League will start a campaign in January to have this antisemitic mural taken down from the main hall in the Student Center of York University. This mural symbolizes violence to be used against Israel. This mural negates the rights of Jews to the Land of Israel.

Students have to walk by this mural every day.

The Jewish Defence League agrees with the position of Avi Benlolo from the SWC of Canada, “university administrations must be held accountable if they promote inconsistent and discriminatory standards. York’s reputation is in a precarious position; its administration should take immediate steps to do the right thing and tear the poster down.”

Join the JDL campaign to have the mural taken down.

Next: A pro terrorism, anti Israel event will be held at University of Toronto on January 12:

955717af-27b0-4c68-b0fc-038e10fa657dThis incitement to murder Jews event will be opposed.  No one is going to be allowed to incite others to stab Jews and get away with it.  The event is described on their Facebook event page in the following manner:

“As the resistance on the ground intensifies, university campuses remain central to building on the Palestinian solidarity movement.”

Also on Facebook, the BDS McMaster group posted this cartoon:

Our overpaid Jewish leaders have turned a blind eye to this incitement against Jews and Israel.

JDL calls on Consulate General of Israel, D.J. Schneeweiss, not to attend J Space Conference

On Sunday November 15th, J Space Canada is hosting a conference in Toronto entitled “For Israel’s Sake: The Vital Role of Progressive Zionists in Canada.”

The Jewish Defence League is very concerned of the participation from the Israeli Consulate General, who will deliver the opening remarks (9:30 am) at this conference.

The Jewish Defence League is calling on the Consulate General of Israel, D.J. Schneeweiss not to attend this misleading conference.

The policies of JSpace are similar to the anti-Israel policies of the European Union which call for boycotts of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria. That BDS policy is counter to the policy of the Government of Canada and the Government of Israel.

Peace Now is involved in the upcoming J SPACE conference this weekend. J SPACE claims that they oppose boycotting Israel. This is false. Peace Now supports the European Union boycott of Israeli products .

J SPACE has also given a platform to Peter Beinart who also called for a boycott of Israel and has justified the recent wave of terrorism there.

The Government of Israel has called the European Union boycott antisemitic. Therefore, the Israeli Consulate General should not attend this Toronto conference.

All participants of the J SPACE conference are giving legitimacy to the European Union’s policy.

Karen Mock, the founder of J Space, has a history of standing with anti Israel groups:

J SPACE claims to oppose BDS. I wish I could believe that, but I don’t because facts are stubborn things. Consider the following:

Karen Mock uses her Twitter account to promote pro-BDS groups like Beit Zatoun and is good friends with Judy Rebick, the founder of anti-Israel pro-BDS blog Rabble:

J SPACE Canada and the Canadian Arab/Jewish Leadership Dialogue Group on Thursday, January 24, 2015 held a joint event. The panelists were Raja Khouri and Karen Mock, founders and co-chairs of the group, and long time members Maurice Green and Jareer (Jerry) Khouri.

Durring the event, Jewish members agreed with the Arab presenters “that in the West Bank, Arabs live an apartheid-like existence”. J SPACE also made it clear: “We ardently oppose Israel’s Jewish settlements on the West Bank.”

The past few years, the Jewish community was very upset that Pride Toronto would allow the anti Israel group Queers Against Israel Apartheid to march in their parade. Pride Toronto told the public that they have a “Dispute Resolution Panel” to handle this matter. It is a three person panel and two of the three include Maurice Green and Raja Khouri. Maurice Green was the former president of the New Israel Fund of Canada and Raja Khouri was the former president of the Canadian Arab Federation.

The NGO Monitor provides some information about the New Israel Fund:

  • Five grantees – Machsom Watch, Coalition of Women for Peace, Women Against Violence, Social TV, and Mossawa – signed a divestment letter, which was sent to the Norwegian Government Pension Fund.
  • Adalah ($500,000 in 2008) promotes a “Democratic Constitution” calling for eliminating Israel’s Jewish framework, and based on the “one-state solution.” Adalah officials were also involved in writing and editing a May 2009 South African publication “Occupation, Colonialism, Apartheid?: A re-assessment of Israel´s practices in the occupied Palestinian territories under international law.” The document refers to Israeli occupation as a “colonial enterprise which implements a system of apartheid.”
  • NIF funded NGOs and their groups were featured centrally in the Goldstone report, which focused on alleged Israeli “war crimes” in the 2009 Gaza war. The report referenced B’Tselem more than 56 times; Adalah, 38; and Breaking the Silence, 27.
  • NIF’s Shatil project provides Israeli NGOs with “consulting, training, coalition-building assistance and other services”, including a number of politicized groups.
  • A confidential US government cable (February 2010), released by Wikileaks, contained comments by NIF Associate Director in Israel Hedva Radanovitz that “she believed that in 100 years Israel would be majority Arab and that the disappearance of a Jewish state would not be the tragedy that Israelis fear since it would become more democratic.” In response, NIF claimed that “her comments…are her personal views. They do not reflect the policies or positions of the New Israel Fund.”

The Canadian Arab Federation is a prominent sponsor of anti-Israel demonstrations, which has  featured people waving Hamas and Hezbollah flags, and people calling for the state of Israel to be wiped off the planet. One video shows a woman declaring: “Jewish child, you’re going to f—— die. Hamas is coming for you.”

Dr. Karen Mock (the leader of J SPACE), a “human rights” consultant, and past director at the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, has a history of associating with Islamic Extremist groups.

Allegations surfaced last summer that the curriculum at the East End Madrassah (EEM) promoted anti-Semitic hatred. Karen Mock together with CAIR Canada defended the Islamic Group behind the EEM.

It should be made clear that CAIR Canada has been  involved with other Islamic groups that support Iran and terror groups. Some of these groups lost their charitable status from the Canadian Government because they fund terror groups ISNA-Canada Loses Charity Status Over Terror Funding.

The Islamic group behind the EEM is the Jaffari Center of Canada which is the main Shia group in Canada. This group has promoted events to remember Ayatollah Khomeini.

The Friends of Simon Wiesenthal issued the following statement:

Imam Syed Mohammed Rizvi, spiritual leader of the ISIJ, is responsible for including the antisemitic content in the educational syllabus. The two textbooks containing the antisemitic passages include one published by the Al Balagh Foundation in Iran, while the book which likens ‘the Jews and the Nazis’ was published by the Mostazafan Foundation of New York, which the U.S. alleges was a front organization for the Iranian government. FSWC remains tremendously concerned about the creeping influence of the Iranian government in Canadian society and, in particular, its ongoing promotion of anti-Jewish hate.

On Sunday November 7, 2010, Karen Mock participated along with Imam Syed Mohammed Rizvi at the Jaffari Center in an event about “twinning programs.”

On 10/07/2000, CAIR-Can, sent out a fundraising announcement directing donations to The Jerusalem Fund for Human Services (JFHS), described as a Hamas front group by Israeli sources.

Interestingly, the Canadian based Jerusalem Fund for Human Services (JFHS) was, according to the CRA, absorbed by IRFAN Canada, IRFAN Canada was stripped of its charitable status by the CRA for, you guessed it, funding Hamas.

J SPACE is attempting to have the Jewish community turn a blind eye to real threats. “The false comfort of appeasement has been repeatedly discredited by history.”

The Jewish Defence League is calling on the Consulate General of Israel, D.J. Schneeweiss not to attend this misleading conference.

Now is the time to move away from weak Jewish leadership

A message from Meir Weinstein, National Director for JDL Canada:

I attended the Toronto Rally to Prevent a Nuclear Iran. I was very disappointed with the turnout. Approximately 250-300 people attended. Over 20 well financed organizations were involved in the promotion of the rally. Many well paid Rabbis and other Jewish leaders spoke.

I was contacted the night before the rally and asked that JDL not be visible at the Rally.

At this critical time in our history, the Jewish people need unity and not deception in order to justify over inflated salaries from leaders that have little appeal to our community.

We have Jewish leaders and Synagogues that roll out the red carpet for Islamic groups and leaders that are part of the radical Islamic network.

We have Jewish leaders that bash PM Stephen Harper and attempt to gather support for the Liberal Party of Canada and the NDP Party of Canada.

Both of these political parties would encourage the promotion of radical Islam and the BDS movement.

Now is the time to move away from weak failed leadership and to support the Jewish Defence League.

I am committed to opening up chapters and branches of the Jewish Defence League in other cities and reviving the Jewish Defence League in the USA.
