URGENT ACTION: Ontario Legislature votes on BDS, December 1

75a7e782-8fe4-4669-a198-1740aa13ba54On Thursday, December 1st, Gila Martow, Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Thornhill, will introduce a motion affirming that the Ontario Legislature rejects the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS).

BDS seeks to isolate and punish Israel – and Israel alone – here in Canada and around the world. The goal of BDS activists is not to promote peace but, by blacklisting Israelis in business, culture, and academia, to challenge the very legitimacy of the Jewish State. In obsessively targeting Israel, the BDS movement is tainted by antisemitism.

While BDS has had little to no economic impact, it has directly fueled hostility toward Jews and Israelis on campuses across Ontario and elsewhere. Far too many students encounter toxic anti-Israel activism on their campus stemming from BDS activities.

Ontario’s elected leaders have already sent a strong message that our province rejects BDS and seeks to strengthen business, culture, and academic ties with Israel – as seen in the Premier’s recent trade mission to Israel. Now the Ontario Legislature is set to reaffirm this principled position through MPP Martow’s motion, which we expect will garner cross-party support.

But we need you to take action to ensure that all MPPs are aware of its importance and will vote in favour of it on Thursday.

CLICK HERE to add your name to those who support the motion, and send a message to Queen’s Park politicians that this motion is widely supported by voters.

Hi friends,
I received this from the New Israel Fund. I’m in the middle of reading the book, Our Harsh Logic. It’s a difficult read, as all the names are excised, so it’s just an anonymous soldier saying “We did this” for a page to 5 pages, over and over for 400 pages. Even so, it’s an extremely important document of the Israeli army’s activities from the inside, and particularly the references to soldiers harassing and arresting civilians, then seeing it reported in the newspaper as “4 terrorists apprehended” and “weapons found,” etc – I would highly recommend it – I got my copy from the Winnipeg Public Library, hopefully it’s similarly available in Toronto. And I’d think a talk with one of its (authors? organizers?) would be very interesting.
Note: the event is in someone’s home, but it is a public event. I checked with Atarah.

Subject: Breaking the Silence in Toronto

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re all well.

I’m writing to you about an event happening in Toronto on Monday, October 14 that I felt you should know about.

Dana Golan from Breaking the Silence (Shovrim Shtikah) will be in Toronto to speak about BTS’s new book, Our Harsh Logic.
While this is not an NIFC event, I think it would be a great opportunity to discuss the sensitive issues at hand and to hear from this transformative activist and educator. Here are the details:
When: Monday, October 14, at 7:30PM
Where: The home of Joan Garson and David Baskin,

If you need more information about the event, please contact Isaac Kates Rose at isaackatesrose@…

All the best,

Atarah

About BTS and the book:

Breaking the Silence is an organization of veteran combatants who have served in the Israeli military since the start of the Second Intifada and have taken it upon themselves to expose the Israeli public to the reality of everyday life in the Occupied Territories. They endeavor to stimulate public debate about the price paid for a reality in which young soldiers face a civilian population on a daily basis, and are engaged in the control of that population’s everyday life.

Israeli soldiers, the young men and women in the army, know the truth of the occupation better than anyone-they are the people who carry it out. Now, in a monumental book of  collective testimony, OUR HARSH LOGIC: Israeli Soldiers’ Testimonies from the Occupied Territories, 2000-2010 the soldiers speak out and demand to be heard.  The soldiers in OUR HARSH LOGIC have gone on the record with their personal experiences to break what they call a conspiracy of silence across Israeli society and to fulfill a moral obligation. Speaking with undeniable authority, they have made a supremely significant contribution to one of the world’s most vexed and intractable conflicts.

On Tuesday  March 22nd, 2016 7:30 PM, there will be a panel discussion with Joan Garson from the New Israel Fund (a group that provides funding to many anti Israel BDS groups);  Karen Mock from J Space (another group that states. “we oppose Israel’s Jewish settlements”) and  an official from CIJA.

It is important for our community to demand that CIJA not provide any
standing to groups that promote anti Israel groups such as the NGO
“Breaking The Silence”

JDL calls on the Government of Canada to enforce the law, as BDS charity plans “sticky note” campaign

To the attention of the Honourable Minister For Public Safety, Ralph Goodale:

It has come to the attention of the Jewish Defence League of Canada that an Ottawa based organization with charitable donation status, Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East, is asking Canadians to damage sales of Israeli products that are sold in Canada.

This BDS group has stated: ” CJPME’s campaign invites Canadians from across the country to sign up for a packet of free ‘Boycott Israel’ sticky notes. CJPME invites Canadians to go to local stores and post these on Israeli merchandise, thus warning potential buyers against buying products from Israel.”

The Jewish Defence League of Canada is calling on your office to advise the RCMP to enforce the law. Conspiring with other groups and persons to willfully damage business  premises and impeding people from carrying on normal business — together with the new form of antisemitism — must be stopped.

The Jewish Defence League will also be advising the Canada Revenue Agency of the above.

We hope that your office will see fit to take necessary action to correct this situation.

Thank You,

Meir Weinstein
National Director, Jewish Defence League of Canada

‘Fans of Anti-Israeli Terrorism Clash with Jewish Students at York University’ (VIDEO)

Our friend Blogwrath attended the JDL’s protest at York last week.

He has an in-depth report at this website, including analysis and background of some of the key anti-Israel event organizers.

Here’s an excerpt:

Despite the opposing voices of anti-Semites, modern Jewish kapos and well-meaning but misguided people, the protest materialized.

A few JDL-Canada members and supporters made their point at the entrance of YU near the end of the park. Others managed to go inside and witness the rally at the food court. It was protected by plenty of campus police that closed the entrances and virtually isolated the fast food joints in the area (that’s fine, the York University students are against capitalist profits anyway).

When the Jews lost patience and raised their voices, the security (uniformed and plainclothes) did their best to keep them silent. (…)

Jews have donated countless millions of dollars with the hope that they support a high institution of learning. The reality is that they have financed a hostile anti-Canadian place which more and more resembles Saudi Arabia. After the protest, CIJA, the organization that claims to represent all Jews in Canada, stated that the anti-Israeli activities in Canadian universities are “marginal”.

If you consider marginal the event you just read about, supported by all major YU student organizations and strongly tolerated by the administration, you should consult your psychiatrist as soon as possible.

Isn’t is time to stop and ask: is this the kind of university anyone in his right mind would support?

U of T Graduate Students Union Cries ‘WOLF’ After JDL Disrupts BDS Event at OISE

The Graduate Students Union at U of T got a taste of its own medicine recently, when   members of the Jewish Defence League confronted the Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid at OISE College at the University of Toronto.

As reported in the Jewish Tribute and the U of T student paper, The Varsity, we shut down their event  — using the same tactics they use to disrupt speakers and events that don’t conform to their ideology.

Here’s just one example of the same tactic used worldwide by these haters to shut down any pro-Israel event:

“Video: French activists seize stage at Israel-backed film festival”

The U of T Graduate Students Union then issued a press release complaining about JDL Canada’s actions.

Alumni and donors take note: this is an indication of the declining quality of a post-graduate education at the University of Toronto. It is truly pathetic.

Obviously, these hate-groups can dish it out, but they certainly can’t handle the taste of their own medicine !

The JDL’s retribution campaign to stop alumni from donating to the University is also having a marked effect.  JDL has been able to convince a growing number of donors to divert their donations to more appropriate recipients.

It is estimated that our campaign has already cost the University of Toronto in excess of $100,000.

JDL Canada fears more attacks on Canadian soil by Muslim terrorists

Beth-Tikvah-Team-Shot-3-624x416

Following last Wednesday’s terror attack in Ottawa, Meir Weinstein, National Director of the Jewish Defence League (JDL) of Canada said he fears we will be seeing more attacks like the one on Parliament Hill.

Weinstein also predicts an increase in requests for security and said, “Our numbers have definitely gone up and we’ve had calls from different cities to establish branches there. A number of people are working on establishing branches in Montreal and Ottawa, while we have requests from Calgary and Vancouver as well.

“We are getting calls…like (last week’s) Challah Bake event in Mississauga for the Shabbat Project. We were asked by Canadian Magen David Adom to come to an event at Beth Emeth (two) weeks ago,” said Weinstein.

Sunday night the JDL was at the Lodzer Centre in Toronto on behalf of the Canada Israel Friendship Association, and tonight, Tuesday, at Beth Tikvah Synagogue for a Stop Sponsoring Hatred event. They only go where they are asked by organizers, unless there is a call for help, as in the case of the recent disruption at the JNF.

“Three shuls asked for our protection for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur: the Sephardic Kehilla Centre, another one in Thornhill and another in North York. The feedback was extremely positive. There was no fee, but there was a donation made to the organization by each of the shuls.

Ever since the High Holidays we’ve been getting calls…from schools to synagogues.

JDL Canada’s Julius Suraski reports on PM Harper’s Knesset address — and much more (video)

Julius Suraski was invited to be part of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s entourage on his historic official visit to Israel.

Julius just sent in this exciting report on today’s events:

First on the agenda was a delegate meeting with “Israeli thinkers”.

Mr. Jonathan Medved, CEO of OurCrowd Funding Group delivered a very positive and interesting presentation called “Start up Nation”.  He told the delegates that Israel was quickly becoming recognized around the world for the development of high tech business and the country is developing a favourable financial, as well as intellectual market that has enabled the creation of what he referred to as “serial entrepreneurs” — business people who were developing successful, recognized business templates for the development of high-tech start-up ventures.

He noted several start-ups that have been purchased by Google and IBM for significant amounts of money and cited that the business climate was very encouraging for a future prosperous economy.

Medved stated that over the past ten years there have been over 900 successful public company exits, many of which have strongly linked the Israeli economy to the American economy.  There are over 300 multinational companies that are located in Israel which have further linked Israel strongly to the world economy — and said that in the “life sciences” field, there have been over 700 device company start-ups alone.

He commented that “Europe is addicted to Israeli products” and is one of Israel’s largest trading partners despite it’s boycott rhetoric. Trade with the UK is surging despite it’s fixation on the BDS movement.

A Slap in the Face for Anti-Israel BDS Movement

Via the Gatestone Institute:

Abbas’s stance against the BDS campaign should serve as a wake up call to all its supporters, especially those who are not Palestinians, that negative campaigns only serve to promote hatred and extremism in the region.

Many Palestinians seem to share Abbas’s view. That is why many Palestinians continue to do business with Israelis on a daily basis and continue to hold joint conferences in Israel and different parts of the world.
