JDL marshals on duty at Sephardic Kehila Centre, Sept, 24, 2014

“The JDL are guardian angels of the Jewish community.”

JDL Canada works closely with many community groups, both Jewish and non-Jewish, to help ensure their safety and security.

Here’s what some of them have told us about our efforts:

“For this year’s High Holidays (2014), we used JDL Canada for all our security needs. Their extensive knowledge of overall security requirements was very impressive. The subsequent procedures we undertook, based on their expertise, were extremely effective. Their presence in our synagogue provided a sense of calm and safety for our members, as the JDL team went about its many activities, from effective monitoring to non-intrusive inspections. JDL Canada’s ability to recognize potential security threats is but one of the many reasons why this organization is essential for the Toronto Jewish community. We greatly appreciate their invaluable participation and heartfelt commitment.”

“I am sending this note in appreciation of the security provided by JDL Canada at the Magen David Adom Canada event on Monday, October 6, 2014. The JDL’s visible presence both outside the Beth Emeth (in the parking lot), and inside the synagogue gave a reassuring message to all attendees that the situation was under control. We also felt that if G-d forbid, had an incident occurred, there would be ample support to handle any eventuality. Thankfully, there were no disruptions to the excellent evening, but it is still important to send the message that JDL is there when needed. This was an excellent way to proactively deal with anti-Israel and anti-Jewish sympathizers. Thank you so much.”

“On behalf of the Toronto Chapter of Canadian Magen David Adom for Israel, I would like to express our gratitude for your support at our Oct.6, 2014 “Iron Dome” event at Beth Emeth synagogue. The JDL contributed to that much-needed feeling of security that is so vital these days. Many guests commented on how relieved they felt having you there. We salute and compliment the JDL on your excellent work, devotion and commitment to the security of our Jewish institutes, events and people. We look forward to working with you again at our next event.”

~ Iris Ehrent, Administrative Co-ordinator, Toronto Chapter of Canadian Magen David Adom for Israel

“JDL provided security for Canada-Israel Friendship Association’s panel discussion titled “The ISIS Crisis: Genocide of Religious Minorities and Terrorist Threat to Canada” at the Lodzer Congregation in Toronto on October 26, 2014. The discussion was attended by members of the Christian,Yezidi, Kurdish and Jewish communities. JDL demonstrated a high degree of professionalism during the event.”

“Please tell everyone at JDL how grateful I am for your participation and assistance with our program on Oct.28, 2014. I was personally very proud to have had you there, and to have been able to explain to my younger cousin who the JDL is, what you stand for, and what you do. Moreover, we discussed just how important the JDL will be to the future of Toronto and Canada’s Jewish communities. You guys are fantastic.”

~ Rabbi Jarrod Grover, Beth Tikvah Synagogue, Toronto

“It seems to me that the JDL is appealing to new male and female and younger recruits who are passionate about our safety and security. Their presence at Beth Tikvah on Oct. 28, 2014 was strong, respectful, orderly and comforting, and I have a sense that many in the crowd were relieved to see them there; I was certainly comforted. The JDL is our unofficial Jewish National Guard and we need to rethink how we see them. They might still need to polish their image, but instead of displaying doubt and cynicism, Jews need to offer a smile and a thank you: these guys and gals regularly put themselves in harm’s way for our safety and security at public and private events.”

~ Reva Stern, attendee, Beth Tikvah Synagogue event, Oct. 28, 2014

“I can in all honesty speak to a high level of professionalism from the JDL marshals on patrol for our event at Beth Tikvah Synagogue, Oct. 28, 2014. They were well dressed, professional and very responsive. As a result, I will be making recommendations to a number of executive directors.”

“A stronger Israel will mean a stronger Middle East. The JDL tries to achieve this by strengthening the cause for Israel’s existence against extreme odds. The JDL has always supported the initiatives of Muslims Facing Tomorrow and we reciprocate by supporting JDL.

~  Sohail Raza, Director, The Council for Muslims Facing Tomorrow

“I have attended a number of JDL events over the years and they have informative speakers, they oppose pro-Hamas/pro-Hezbollah protestors on the streets of Toronto. As a Hindu, I have always felt respected at their events. Jews and Hindus have many shared values.”

~ Shobna Kapoor, Founding Director, Canadian Patriotic Society

“JDL faithfully offers an important protective service, not only to the Jewish community, but for all groups who advocate freedom of speech and democratic rights in peacefully assembled public forums. We appreciate their genuine activism, and also their inclusion of campuses and other major cities in Canada.”

~ Donna Holbrook, National Executive Director, International Christian Embassy Jerusalem Canada (ICEJ Canada)

“That article on the JDL in Shalom Toronto really got my heart pumping. I work at a Temple, and I am so passionate about security and the protection of the Jewish people. Tomorrow morning, I will be trained and certified to use pepper spray. It’s not gun training, but it’s a start. We have had some vandalism at our Shul, and I want to be prepared to spray someone if needed and then call the cops. The JDL are guardian angels of the Jewish community. The fact that they provided security on Yom Kippur and offer to be security consultants is just so inspiring to me.”

~ Ross Berg, Temple Administrator,Temple Beth Israel, Los Angeles, California, U.S.A.

“Unfortunately, the world has become a very scary and volatile place. We have to be thankful for the efforts of organizations such as the JDL whose goal is to protect the Jewish people from harm – THANK YOU!!”
